Trustees Received a Presentation regarding Progress of Internships and Work-Based Learning in the Washoe County School District and Plans for Continued Expansion and Proclamation Honoring Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month

 

Trustees received a presentation regarding progress of internships and work-based learning in the Washoe County School District and plans for continued expansion and proclamation honoring Career and Technical Education (CTE) month in the Washoe County School District.

Ang mga highlight ng pagtatanghal ay kinabibilangan ng:

 

  • The first full-time internship coordinator (Crystal Edwards) was positioned in the CTE department during the summer of 2024.
  • Nevada Department of Education works closely to ensure internships administered/supported by the CTE department are 60 hours in length and bear academic credit.
  • The long-term goal is to expand internship promotion opportunities to 100% of students in grades 10-12.

Trustees Received a Presentation regarding Community Partnerships to Include the Community Health Alliance, The Food Bank, and Reno Rotary

 

Trustees received a presentation regarding community partnerships to include the Community Health Alliance, The Food Bank, and Reno Rotary and how they support student academic achievement.

  • Highlight of partnerships between the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, Community Health Alliance, Care Solace, and the City of Reno, Rotary Club of Reno.
  • Reno Rotary donated nearly $10,000 to our counseling department in the late summer to help prevent substance use efforts.
  • Discussed the importance of Community-School Interdependence: Employers and Economic Development, Tax Dollars, and Quality Instruction result in better results for all.

  • Issues with the new student identification/number system that recently went into effect.

  • Plans to visit more specialty schools this year.
  • Trustee Smith and Trustee Hull attended the Commission on Recruitment & Retention.

Superintendent's Report

  • Recognizing commitment and service from the board during Board Awareness Month in January.
  • Played celebratory "Thank You" video showcasing the work of WCSD.
