Trustees Heard an Update on 2026-2027 School Start Times

Trustees heard an update on amended school start times for the 2026-27 school year. Highlights of the presentation included:

  • In a follow-up to an initial survey on the topic, a survey of 34,389 students, parent/guardians, school employees, and community members polled opinions about a possible shift in start times.
  • Options for shifting start times included a uniform start time shift across all grade levels and three versions of swapping start times among elementary, middle, and high school.
  • No one scenario emerged as a clear preference, with all four receiving majority positive ratings.
  • Scenario Three received the most consistent support among parents across all grade levels, so it was chosen for the 2026-27 school year. This scenario swaps middle school and high school start times and standardizes them. The new start times are 7:30 a.m for middle school and 8:30 a.m. for high school.
