Trustees Received an Update from Hazzard, Young, Attea & Associates on the Superintendent Search

Trustees received an update on the superintendent search process from Hazzard, Young, Attea & Associates, including the completion of the online community survey, which 13,749 people took. There were also several focus groups held. The top two priorities are recruiting, employing, and retaining effective personnel throughout CCSD, and fostering a unifying, positive, professional climate of mutual trust and respect among faculty, staff, and administration.

Additional consensus is seen in additional priorities, such as financial planning and management, transparent communication, establishing a culture of high expectations, and demonstrating a deep understanding of educational research and emerging best practices.

This informed the five desired characteristics of the leadership profile:

  • Relational, transformational leader
  • Data-driven decision-making for improved academic achievement
  • Financial steward
  • Effective communicator
  • Political acumen and knowledge of CCSD

The board approved the leadership profile with additional climate and cultural relevance comments.

Trustees Approved a Recommendation for a Change in the Superintendent Search Timeline

HYA Associates presented a recommendation to move the selection process for the new CCSD Superintendent from October 30, 2024, to a later time, due to community concerns heard by the search team regarding the resignation of District B’s representative, the upcoming election, and the upcoming legislative session.

Several options were presented in the below recommendation document:

  • Option 1: Moves the selection phase to January, with official hiring occurring at the end of February
  • Option 2: Includes additional board governance training, moves the selection phase to February and March, with official hiring occurring at the end of March
  • Option 3: Includes additional board governance training, moves the selection phase to March and April, with official hiring occurring at the end of April

Trustees approved the timeline of Option 2, without the additional governance training or other services.
